Kamalani Akeo, a standout Pitt volleyball alumna, has quickly emerged as one of the top young coaches in collegiate volleyball. Promoted to assistant coach in 2023 after serving as Director of Operations, Akeo has played a key role in Pitt’s historic run of success, including back-to-back Final Four appearances and an NCAA-best team hitting percentage in 2024. She’s been instrumental in the development of elite players like Rachel Fairbanks, guiding her to multiple All-America and ACC honors.
Akeo brings firsthand experience as both a high-level player and coach, having led Pitt to its first two ACC Championships during her collegiate career and competing professionally overseas. Her deep understanding of the game, training systems, and team culture continues to elevate Pitt's offense and championship mentality.
Akeo holds a degree in human resource management and marketing from Pitt, where she remains one of the top setters in program history with over 3,900 career assists. Her journey from student-athlete to assistant coach at her alma mater is a testament to her leadership, commitment, and passion for the game.
